Just how is Eritrea able to afford all these Jet Fighters?
.....A MiG-29 FULCRUM sells for anywhere between US$20-$27 MILLION DOLLARS and Eritrea has more of these planes than any African nation. Just crazy, where do they come up with this kind of money...Eritrea is just as poor as other nations in Africa but looking at their air force, u would think otherwise.

Re: Just how is Eritrea able to afford all these Jet Fighters?
thats becuase they are united , organized and commited to thier nation.
Somalia has allot more resources than Eritrea, hell Somaliland alone can match
it in funds.
the Difference is that we have a drug habit, and we are no where as united ,
and dysfunctional.
you think i am kidding?
forget somalia,, 3 years annual consumption of Qaad by Somaliland alone
is enough to buy the 12 Mig-29's that Eritrea has.
this is how foked up we are

Yea dude, i read they pay a 2% fee to be Eritrean or something like that....i think every devolping country should make their daspora population pay a fee...it's a genious idea....The 2% fee is not mandatorey but most Eritreans pay it nonetheless
Eritrean Airlines started operations in 2003 and since then flies a Boeing 767-200ER, a Boeing 747 and a 767-300ER ....That's 3 billion dollar planes...crazy and i've even read they're buying a 4th Boeing plane this coming June

and thier intelligence operatives are even more paranoid than arabs,
if you are part of the diaspora, they discourage you from comming back, they want you to work and send back remitances.
and if you are an eager young and stupid young man, like my buddy who volunteered to fight..
they wont let you fight, and they will give you support work, like kitchen duty,
medic...
until you and your whole family have been under observation for a while.

sanagian we need better training with the weapns we already have,
and to restructure our millitary...before we buy new stuff..
we are on a budget mayne,
and we are not Saudi arabia, we cannot afford a useless army that cannot fight, but is better equiped than many in the world.

an eritrean friend told me ,that khat is strictly forbidden in Eritrea..
and if you are caught with khat then you will be thrown to jail for atleast 6 months without trial ..they have very strict rules for the green narcotic..i can understand why.

Re: Just how is Eritrea able to afford all these Jet Fighters?
but real question is ... where are they heading ?
Do Eritrea have any dreams or ambitions
We know what our country Somaliland wants
great ports along our 900 km coasy connected to a intensive railway system with great infrastructure to all cities , oil pumping up and being delivered to Berbera , Maydh , Saylac , Karin .
many of us share these ideas ...
but what do Eritreans wants ?
I know they drilled for oil along their coast a couple of years ago but nothing was found
talk about bad luck they are neighbouring the worlds nr 1 oil field
----------------------
About military purpose
yeah I believe in small specialized units something like hiding in the mountains of Golis and and of Hawd combined with a rational force but then again who is our enemy ?
we have no natural enemy unless Somalia gets on its feets

Dont blame eritrea..
they have chosen their path...
good luck to them...
they are facing the same choices that we will choice when we join the international community..
will you take the religion of the IMF/World Bank mumbo jumbo
open your country to exploitation and inescapable debt.
or will they remain one of the few really independant countries in the world...
choice one is the easy one, accept your fate,
your country will develope, money will pour in,,, but there will never be any real development... the rich will get richer, the poor will get stuffed.....
and the USA and other will be your best friends,
take the other path, like they are taking ,, and you will have the world ganging up on you....
God help them

Re: Just how is Eritrea able to afford all these Jet Fighters?
Gurey, i think Somaliland is doing a good job for not being a reconized nation but does Somaliland really need Jet fighters? No they don't IMO....i don't think there's a real threat for Somaliland...it's like djibouti, is there any real threat to djibouti? Ethiopia wouldn't dare to invade djibouti because they're under the french's military umberella and Eritrea dose not beef with them and the Afars in djibouti are ok with having some seats in the government so why do they continue buying tanks and military hardware completly baffles me...Maybe its an african thing
