Dutch government ready for fallout over planned anti-Islam film

THE HAGUE (AFP) - The Dutch government is ready for any possible fallout of a planned film by far-right MP Geert Wilders that attacks Islam as an "inspiration for murder," Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende said Friday.

"We are ready to react quickly, it is our role to be prepared for calamities," Balkenende told journalists at his weekly press briefing.

Earlier on Friday Dutch media had reported that the government had compiled a secret document on how best to deal with reactions to the film.

Wilders, the head of the far-right Freedom Party, announced in November that he planned to release a 10-minute film this month that will show that Islam's holy book, the Koran, "is an inspiration for intolerance, murder and terror".

Observers say Wilders might burn or tear up the Koran in the movie. In February last year the MP called on Muslims to "tear out half the pages of the Koran and throw them away".

The Hague fears a repeat of riots when thousands took to the streets in Muslim countries to protest cartoons of the prophet Mohammed that appeared in a Danish newspaper in 2005.

The protests left some hundred people dead, Danish embassies were attacked and Danish goods were boycotted.

Balkenende said he could not comment on Wilders's film project because he had not seen the actual movie but stressed the government would not censor anything beforehand.

"The Netherlands has a tradition of freedom of expression and freedom of religion but also a tradition of mutual respect, and provocations do not fit into that. I call on everybody to take their individual responsibility," he said.

America carries its racism on tanks, bombs and navy ships. Their racism is marked on every Muslim (Afghani, Iraqi, Somali, Palestinian) they have killed directly or indirectly.

Sadly, we will have the usual Wahaabi crazy zealots giving muslims a bad name after these idiot racists come out with their ill-informed and provocative video. There are many constructive ways to deal with this but the usual murder and mayhem is not the one of them. You only give publicity to these demented fools.

Despite Fah's comments it is America where the racist has a wider latitude and freedom. There are laws on the books of every European country that prohibit the oppression of minorities, including protection from inflammatory hate speech that exposes those minorities to contempt or violence. America's bill of rights allows every citizen to express everything and anything that comes into their head. Not so Europe where the great historian David Irving has been imprisoned by Austria for denying the holocaust. This despite the fact that the most anti-muslim and vicious neocons like Christopher Hitchens have lauded his outstanding research in German archives.

If I were outraged enough about this video, I wouldnt take to the streets and cause mayhem. I would just make a movie about Anne Frank's family and their hideout from the Nazis as a brothel frequented by the Nazis. Some sick demented shit like that and portray anne frank as a little tart with an over acitve imagination. That would really drive the Dutch and Jews nuts, leade to a ban on the video and give Dutch Muslims a chance to hold the Dutch government's hypocrisy for all the world to see.


Btw, I have the greatest respect for the Dutch people. It is a beautiful country. People are intelligent and always hospitable and polite. They speak English!! And have given a chance to millions of non-Dutch to live amonst them and earn a livelihood.

lool remember what happened to that van gogh fella, him and ayan hirsi made a film demonising islam. He got shanked by a dutch morrocan. In the court case they said to the morrocan guy, confess and admit your guilt and sorry and we will reduce the sentence to 3 years (typical liberal duch law). The morrocan refused and said if i could do it all over again then i would. lol
