Gatspy,

I am paid off on the undergrad but with the grad at a low rate, I am paying it slowly because I earn much better interest rates (double) in my Money Market. There is no incentive to pay it off until the student loan rates exceed the money mkt rates.

Well it's deferred as long as you are in grad school so it makes no sense to leave grad school since you've already invested 1 year unless you find a good job that can help you pay for it.

If you can still do gradschool part-time that will help too.

Guhad,
Since you have already started your grad studies it would not be wise for you to stop and to start looking for a job. No matter what industry are you in, it is harder to find jobs these days, we are in tough times. Continue with your grad program and in the meantime look for a job with a company in your field of study. Make sure the company offers tuition re-imbursement program (most companies do). If you get hired while you are still attending school then you can change to part-time student and your employer pays for you to finish up the grad program.

Nah, I'd recommand finishing off your grads studies before you start paying off your loans.

How do you guys in the states have to pay it back....do they give you an option like we get here in the Uk that you only start paying back once you get a job and starting to earn a certain amount of which then you pay them in terms or a reasonable amount.

Finish grad school and studying is behind you . You can then work really hard to pay them off. Students loans have low interest as compared to normall bank loan.

Plus you will be earning good money and get your ROI within 3 years! In your end even shorter than 3 years as jobs are available!
