I am glad to see that most of you are treating slavery as a humorous impracticality. The sad truth is that there still are legal slave markets in the Sudan and Mauretania and Saudi nationals keep getting in hot water in the US over Indonesian maids. There was a fatwa issued in Egypt just last year to the effect that the need for slavery within Islam would never diminish.

I am NOT saying enslavement is limited to Muslims, but Islam does have some very persistent traditions on the subject.

Slavery is available, but during these times it is impracticable and not needed, at all.

In Islam, slavery is supposed to mean more to the effect of POWs earning their freedom back or something....or companions of POWs...

More reward is for freeing slaves, than keeping them.
