USA Somalis should i tell my teacher im not african american

This is really itching my mind. The term African American is Racist and Bullshit imo. How are you supposed to differentiate between me and Tyrone. These guys don't know a thing about Africa first of all, they are about as African as a Mexican can claim to be Spanish. Yet Mexicans which are mixed with Indian and speak Spanish and are also catholic would never be seen as the same as a Spanish. Then why are these "African Americans' which almost always are mixed with white and barely look African sometimes still linked racially the same to a whole continent which they dont share religion or language with! Im not hating on them but i don't feel as though skin is the biggest factor in kinship how could it be i mean look at our country we are the same skin, language, history figuratively speaking, and culture yet we hate our guts. I don't understand the profiling African immigrants suffer in the USA. I mean we came here though that harbor in NY as immigrants so we share something with the other immigrants as trying to better our family and lives, yet we are grouped in with the resident Black Americans like we are the same peoples.. I have this black history class and the teacher is always telling me about learn about your history wtf is Martin Luther king even discussed in Somalia? What about Ahmed grahn thats our leaders, sure i dress similar to them but so are other kids these days but no one will ever ask me if im Somali or if im Muslim they assume im just like other blacks, This would never happen to an Asian they will ask you are you Korean or Japaneses, etc.. You have your distinct tongues, and histories and blood lines. Why are All people who share dark skin or brown skin grouped together??

What I dont get is why are the blacks labeled African American and the yellow ppl are Asian Americans. But you never hear of a white being refered to as European American. Tell your teacher you're Somali American if she says why tell her the only reason Tyrone is African American is because he doesnt know where in Africa hes from thanks to your forefathers.

Im American too how am i supposed to dress in a kamis? Even the filipinos,mexians,and "white" Americans dress like this its generational thing it still doesnt mean i should be profiled the same.

I don't look like a thug or nothing or have a hat backwards/or that head thing they wear.. I just put on some nikes,regular jeans and a regualr shirt, sweater.

On a serious note..i understand what you are trying to say..they define us by skin colour..you have to reject that because we are more than a skin colour i.e we know where we came from, we have a country, we have a culture, a language in this way we are different to africanamericans etc..

Why should he have to chose what he is? If he is a mix then he is half and half of each part of his blood line. If you so chose to say you are Somali, than so be it, dont try to convince others that a part should be the whole or the whole should only be a part.
