Greatest Leader of the 20th Century

Post by AbdiWahab252 »

Chairman Mao Zedong of the People's Republic of China for taking a divided nation uniting it, kicking out foreign invaders and creating a strong national identity:

His ruthless vision united a fractured people and inspired revolutions far beyond China's borders

May Somalia get a Chairman Mao Zedong

AbdiWahab252, you nominate a communist leader as the greatest leader of the 20th century over great Sufi leaders like the Mad Mullah?

eternauta,

Sheik Sayid Abdulle Hassan (AUN) did not achieve his dream. I do admire his tenacity but his vision did not come to fruition.

Leaders are admired for what they leave behind: strong societies and powerful nations

I agree with AW, we need a dictator like Mao, whos only for the interest of Somalia not foreign countries. Somalia has the potential to be like how it was in the 60s and 70s both economic and military wise but we need someone to rule it with an iron fist.

I actually think Siad Barre should be in the top 50. Easily. I don't believe in nationalism, and neither did he. We both believe in the absolute destruction of fake European borders and a return to our ethnic/tribal homelands -- the way things were.

But, I think that the greatest leader in the 20th century was Vladimir Lenin. This guy turned a confederation of quiet Slavic tribes into the strongest force in history, both ideologically (communism) and militarily (red army). Lenin is also the most copied man in the 20th century, easily. Mao was nothing compared to Lenin. There would be NO Mao without Lenin!

Lenin was the ideologue, but he was ill when they actually came to power and was controlled by Stalin, who was "Secretary" of the party.

The single essay question that was the final in my Russian History exam in college was, "Was Stalin necessary?" The answer that got the most points was that he was, if Russia was to be united and be in a position, with help, to defeat the Germans in WWII.
