Do you think Disablity waa ceeb in our culture?
Yesterday evening I went to visit my cousin, my cousin and his wife waxaa u jooga 3 kids.
The oldest waa 9,7 and 4 years old. The four years old waa balaayo cirka laga soo riday. The kid was screaming at all times, fighting, and the parents isagay busy ku ahaayeen, two seconds ma fadhin karo in the same seat, markuu ciyaarayo, if he's not interrupting us, he's playing too loudly! hyperactive behaviourkiisaan la yaabay.
Anyway, I think there is such a lack of understanding about disablity in the somali society. Ma ceeb baa loo arkaa disablity? What if your child have signs of ADHD? would you admit it or ignore it?

If somalis are ashamed of disabilities then they are truely hopeless, its something from Allah swt.

Do you think or are they
you accuse somalis and then act like you dont even know.
most somalis dont know the different kinds of disabilities so you cant accuse them for not knowing since you know why dont you help your little nephew.

Gifted, in Somalia disabled person was viewed as a cursed, then familes continued to hide them away, some died because there was nobody to care for them!Gifted wrote:If somalis are ashamed of disabilities then they are truely hopeless, its something from Allah swt.

Baby good answer to Htologist--why dont u help them, take responsibilty rather come here and brag about your lack of this particular disability tho u have other disabilities.

Can we say illiterate & ignorant people?
Anyway, I hope all this makes some kind of sense, I'm off to hunt down several very strong cups of coffee!
Cheers all!

You are right, Somalis do try to hide their disabled children instead of seeking help. And when these children grew up, they become hopeless. Look at Basra.

Htologist,
Walaal, Yes Somalis see disability as a shame..They don't only see as a shame but they are usually very cruel to disable people..I remember back home children used to run after disable people and dogs..They were very cruel to them
. Some of the families that have a disable child even try to keep them invisble not seen by people.
I think this 4 yrs old child is autistic..I was reading last month, triplets that were fine and ok but when they reached 18 months they all became autistic and the parents were saying that it was because of the immunizations they took at that age..It affected each one differently. One of them was described just like the 4 yrs old...
I hope they learn to respect and accept disable people..
PS... Ofcourse we have some Somalis that respect and care for Disable people but they are a handful..

Yes they do...Xita marku cudur ku dhaco way is qariyaan...I know this family who had a sick lady, whenever my mother visited them and asked them whats wrong with her, waxay ku yeraahdan uun inanta caloosha ayaa yara xanuuniysa
...Two weeks later the women died....guess what? she had Cancer and the family hided from everybody and after her death the secret was out....I remember everybody was shocked, I mean when you know someone has a serious illnes like cancer you prepare urself mentally that the person will die hadi ilaahy oo qoray....They never gave us that chance.
