That was the response of the Muslim man and afterwards he asked the priest: What is the key to Paradise?

The priest hesitated in answering but was forced to answer by the crowd. So after asking for no harm to befall on him said:


I testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His messenger.

The priest and those with him in the church took Islam as their religion.

Its said that this story happened to a man called Abou Al-Yazid AL Bistami who lived in Basra, Iraq!

"They said to him, "The key for Paradise is 'La ilaha ill-Allah' (witnessing that there is no god except Allah).

Abou Yazid said: It is true, but a key is for opening a lock; and the key of such witnessing can only operate under the following conditions:

1) a tongue which doesn't lie nor backbite
2) a heart without betrayal
3) a stomach without haram or doubtful provision
4) deeds without desire or innovation

I will always be thankful to this man...he is the one who taught me how to love my religion. He was the first sufi philosopher i have ever interacted with. For the things he taught me, i am indebted to him for life.

May Allah grant him El Firdous.
