i've come across the hadith today as well. but i dont think our community has that problem. our community suffers from lack of educated hard working right guided men.
i would give pradise if i had the power (not that im claiming power) to somali women who suffered in the hands of men all their lives. they've the subject of bad society. no help from strong communites, not help from strong fathers, not help from strong brothere and definetly no help from strong husbands (the strenght im talking about is of education, diiniyan aspect) (btw im not saying all somali men are like this, but majority).
i sometimes wonder if all somali men were like sheekhs like cumar faaruuq, idiris, umal, shibile, ramadhan, mustafe ismail, boqol soon aun. i wonder if there would be anything wrong with somalia as a whole? let alone a one sector of it (in this case, marriege)
:(

I think Somalis in general are good. Although he women wear the trousers  I defaintly think they have a good relations. Well, the elders anyway (some).

BTW: I found the hadith, edited in previous post. Wether it is shahih and its extent I will do futher investigation InshaAllah :D But just something to ponder on.

Alluring

Yes, that's a woman primary role, her children and her house. It's part of islam, you don't get to pick and choose what you want to adhere to abayadis. Of course women can work and do other things, but they are not required to.

"ignorant and un-educated minds would think that is only men that need to be respected, they the only ones that have the "right" for obedience. isnt marriege and happy life come from both of them respecting each other? and being obedience to each other?"

Are you saying that I am ignorant and un-educated? And when did I say its only men that have to be respected? I said both parties have to listen to each other and be obedient to one another, which of course comes from RESPECTING each other!...I am guessing u r 17/18...Abaayo macaan read again my other post...u still have alot to learn

I reject that. Maybe its the MAJORITY where you are at, but in different places there are different circumstances.

Somalis in the West and outside of Africa/Middle East are maybe a million or two, we got our good and we got our bad.

no lol. not you! the people that might read this thread (and mainly men) would think its right for a women to respect her husband only!! thats what i meant, there are many ignorant men out there who thinks women is just there for her husband only. no one else. but if we state that respecting and caring comes from both parties (which you said you did mention it, but i didnt see it  :? ). after all it take two to tango.
loool im not 17/18, either.  just mis-understandting of what i wrote.

FAH its the majorty, becuase if it werent, somalia wouldnt be like this today, and our youth wouldnt be in jails in their thousands.
you know we had islamic talk/mahadiro with sheek(s) mustafe ismail, khalid yasin, (and another two somali shekhs which i forgot their names  ). they said they went to visit prisons in the UK. main ones, like in London, Birmingham, and Machester, and they stated how many somali boys and girls are in prisons,(they said it was more than 5000 somali youth in london prisons alone! including girls  :( ) who dont have anyone to even bail them out!!! where are their fathers? why are they in prison in the first place, and some even when sheekhs spoke to them, some said it was there third of fourth time in prison. they keep getting in trouble. where fathers again (at fadhi kudirir  )? why arent they deported the first time around? why didnt they get the help they needed once in trouble? :?
walalo i aint here to bad mouth my people, im here to do something for them, in fact im one of those people that help and want to help my community. i work for my local council. i see and hear many sad, yet true stories that affecting our community. at first hand. the picture isnt as pretty as some of you would think :(

i love the hadeeth prophet used for equalty between all the people.
prohpet used a comb. as a comb teeth are equal but they have different location in the comb.
their possition and location makes them equitable and not equal.

the only equality that is primal between the sexes is "respect". all deserve equal respect...everything else is respective to gender specifications.

surrender stop generalizing all somali man huuno. Now i do agree that we in the somali community have some bad apples but they are a small % compared to any other nationality and you will see. the reason that our bad apples stand out more is because they are small in numbers and everyone is pointing the finger at them. So you see iAs bad as it may seem sis.

"do you think they can be treated as equal?
(read the website to help you, but i already have my own veiw on equality between genders,)"

Yes they can be treated as 'equal' - its called kindness, consideration, Islamic, humanistic etc etc. But in realistic essence men and women cannot be biologically or eganomically equal.Even Islamically, they are not equal. Let discuss, Islamically in this instance, since the occasion of the discussion calls for it.BY the very definition of equality and the guidelines of the story of Adam and Xawo--Lets call her Eve...shall we... :D .... Lets ..see... was basically created a few days after Adam was created, so that alone tells u who is the man, right? Second of all, Eve was sprung from the 'ribs' of Adam-- which automatically tells you-- We--womankind are NOT original. Basically, this sweet Adam & Eve tale- tells me or us.... :D ....That Egonomically-- Eve is a potion of Adam, therefore NOT his equal. For sure men and women are not equal. Who is superior u may ask? Well, the answer to that question i am afraid, has an answer that i tend to shy away from! It comes from Martin Luther king- "Judge a character by its character, not by its gender".

(But if u really want to dig deep, women are preferred to men. Why else does the paradise lie in the feet of a mother than a father? Why is a father so useless, even in modern day fathers day? Mothers day is a national recognition, fathers day is a national uselessness.
But you could argue, the mother is rewarded for going thru labor and carrying the child 9 months. The pain she goes thru is a compesation. The father only had the benefit of orgasm and inflicting her with this unforgivable pain. If u argue this way, then u men and fathers of course, will be jealous no more- ma ha?) :D

"do you think feminism would exist if men treated women as equal in the first place?"

Yes, it would exist. There is no pleasing women. Its just the way we are. :D

Naa Basra Waaley....

Looool@ the mother is rewarded for going thru labor and carrying the child 9 months. The pain she goes thru is a compesation ----

So, u telling me that backbreaking pain is actually compensation!!!. U could have merely said, Allah placed heaven underneath mothers feet, 2 reward them 4 enduring such a pain....
