OFFICIAL: Russia bombards Georgian ports and cities

The fighting is now officially outside of South Ossetia and is now a full-scale war between both nations.

Georgia is recalling 2,000 troops from Iraq to serve in the home front.

Russian air forces have bombed the port of Poti on the Black Sea and the town of Senaki. The Russian air assault ranges from the Black Sea coast in the west to the Azerbaijani border.

Georgia has been attacked by a formidable force, it is a brutal attack with the use of air force, tanks and even the trademark cyber attack.

About 1,400 died in the early hours.

Russian general in command says:

"We're not going anywhere and we are going to continue to fulfil the task that we were assigned," Marat Kulakhmetov, head of the contingent, said, according to Russia's Interfax news agency.

But damn, CNN is just picking up this story and both countries have such ridiculously high firepower. I'm seeing footage of the Georgians bombarding approaching Russian troops and they're just setting the city ablaze.

Tomorrow morning we're going to wake up to casualties of 5-10k.

GORI, Georgia (Reuters) - Russian forces battled pro-Western Georgian troops in South Ossetia on Friday in an escalating conflict that threatens to engulf a key energy transit route to Western Europe.

Both sides ignored pleas from world leaders for calm as Moscow and Tbilisi blamed each other for the fighting in South Ossetia which began after several days of skirmishes. Georgian forces shelled the capital of its breakaway region, which separatists said left 1,400 people dead.

Georgia said Russia bombed airfields and Poti port deep inside its territory and Tbilisi and rushed tanks and troops into South Ossetia, formally still a part of Georgia, to reinforce its small force of peacekeepers.
