Who knew it as ''Ogaden region''? For example, who nicknamed all the Somali territories now collectivelly under Ethiopian colonization as ''Ogaden region''?

Its a simple question, and kindly answer it if you have answers.
When I gave you my honest answer about your questions, you completely changed around and created false premise to build your arguments and that was when I realised that you had sinister motives to stir up divisions.

I ask again:

How did the name Ogaden region for the Somali territories that are now under Ethiopian colonization come about?

Who named all these territories as ''Ogaden region''?

I know the British documented as such, but who named it?

Is there someone who can give a clear answer?

Thanks.

Koley anigu muran energy uma hayo waan soomanahay wali, may be after Iftaar !.

For the time being can you asnwer me the following questions.

What are you hoping to achieve by looking the histocal background of Ogaden beyond the modern history (beyond 100 years)?
Do you think it is relevant to know that far, if yes why?
What benefits are you hoping to get?

I will very much be happy to engage with you if you address the above questions.

I came on the question when I read the ONLF website,

http://www.onlf.org/present_past.htm

In that they sketched the history of the region, but did not go into the issue of why the region is called ''Ogaden region''..........from the website I read thinks like Ogaden Somalis...which I did not understand.

For example what do they mean with Ogaden Somalis? Those Somalis living in Ogaden region?

Hence my question in this topic.

If you believe in Pan-somali idea as yourname suggests then I can help you why such language was adopted by the ONLF. But what I can not help you with is define a name of a land/region?

Ogaden region is the name of the land(region), Ogaden somalis, somalis living in Ogaden, ethnic somalis in Ethiopia, somali-ethiopians etc all reffer to somali people in Ogaden.

The reason ONLF adopted such language is for political reasons, Ethiopia has succeeded in the past in portraying the Ogaden issue as a land dispute between Ethiopia and Somalia which was is not the case.

I am aware of that.

But one cannot help but to investigate that language further.

For example, ONLF reffers to the region as Ogaden since it is known under that name internationally as a consequence of the British who documented that region as such.

Is this correct?

This is how non-Ogadeni Somalis in Killinka Shanaad feels about the ONLF and Ogadenia. Can they win? Only if pigs fly.

IS THE ONLF STRUGGLE AN ASSET OR A LIABILITY?

WHO DOES THE ONLF REPRESENT?

By Ismail Ahmed

Who is in fact responsible for the present agony of Ogaden clan?

Does ONLF legitimately represent all Somalis in the autonomous region of Ethiopia?

Pre ample of the ONLF

The ONLF is a grassroots social and political movement founded in 1984 by the Somali people of Ogaden who could no longer bear the atrocities committed against them by successive Ethiopian regimes. Today, the ONLF as both an advocate for and defender of the people is dedicated to restoring the rights of Somalis in Ogaden to self-determination, peace, development and democracy.

http://www.onlf.org/demonstrate.html

We the people of Ogaden (tribally and nationality)

Recognizing that our country has been colonized against our will and without our consent by Ethiopia

And as such we have bestowed upon it the following mandates.

To reclaim our inherent right to national self-determination

To defend our country ,its people and natural resources from all enemies external & internal. (you know what that means? tribal wars)
To restore our universally recognized human and civil rights (How about other Somali tribes in killinka shanaad). To serve as the legitimate representative of our people and struggle to all.

DEMOCRACY & TRANSPARENCY

The Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) pledges to remain democratic, transparent and independent. It further pledges to remain accountable only to the people of Ogaden. (Only Ogaden people)
WOMEN, CHILDREN & MINORITIES (Other Somali tribes)
(They expand few points on the Rights of Ogaden Women and Children but not a single point was raised on the Rights of so called other Somali minorities/tribes)
