Jowahar iyo Luul--Somali Literature

Post by AMAT-ALLAH »

A famous poem was once recorded by an unknown composer. The poem was written in tune with the political climate of the 50s early 60s era, where the Reserved Area which we all know today as the 'Hawd' was given to the Ethiopians by the British. The poem reflected a sentiment of sorrow and immeasurable hurt. Sadly i dont have the copy of the poem on me, but will post it in due time. An amazing poem, incredibly written. If anyone is familiar of the poem, was the composer revealed? Or always unknown? Apparantly the poem Jowahar iyo Luul was believed to be the first heello poem of its time...(see J. W Johnson 1974. Heellooy heelleellooy: the development of the genre heello in modern Somali. poetry.) The poem can also be found in the book.
