Oxy, there's nothing wrong with being honest with yourself.

But unlike you, I actually hate Somalis, but only because I've gotten too deep into my fake Yemeni minority persona and I actually believe sometimes that Somalis abused my ancestors.

In anycase, I do like and see some + attitudes in younger generations and there is something good abt that..unlike what you thought it might represent..

And quite honestly..I was a brilliant kid.. But,

I may not have lived up to my potentials yet..but i will...and even if I cant.. I want the younger kids to take note of me and my mistakes ..doqon yahow.


So instead of adressing me , you should have stayed more focused on your point.. which I think is undermining the kid after all .. and besides how long will you be 20??

To the topic starter, don't get surprised at your friends.

In the past, there was no one more nationalistic then myself. I was above and beyond a simple "Somali nationalist". I was obsessed, on another level, a different playing field.

THat was the old me.

Now I never ever bring up "Somali" unless I am absolutely forced to and then add "my heritage is Somali". Codeword: heritage.

I am an American. No one inside the country doubts I am American, and if I get asked what my background is I just say my heritage is Somali. Outside of the country I am recognized as an American even by Somalis from my experience this summer in Africa.

I have no more ties to Somalia then Fox New's Bill O'reilly or Bill Clinton have to Ireland.

I have moved on and I guess that is what your friends did, i.e move on.

Same here, I don't even have to go to Africa for Somalis here to just say "Oh, you're American"
