Indhacade is a loud mouth who needs to keep silent. Now is not the time for finger pointing & accusations. Sh. Daahir Aweys is hardcore al-itihaad who does not believe in negotiations, like Al-shabaab, he wants the ousting of the Ethiopians through brutal force. But, at what cost? A few thousand fighters will not make much of a difference when its the Americans that are running things.
Everything that the Ethiopians, Ugandans do are orders that come from the Americans. Every telephone conversation between ICU officials, every movement, everything is constantly being monitored. The war is not between starved Ethiopian troops & the ICU, its between a coalition of Western nations headed by the U.S. and the ICU. This is about the total elimination of political Islam in the horn. Nobody gives a shit about Somalia or the Mbagathi warlords.
Sh. Shariif knows how the real world works, he met with U.S. officials who made it clear to him that if they did not concede, they will be bombed and never have a chance at survival. The Americans realize the incompetence of the Mbagathi warlords and know without the backing of Maxaakiimta, the threat of political groups like Al-shabaab will never disappear. They made concessions of their own and made many pledges to Sh. Shariif including the removal of Daahir Aweys off their terrorist list along with many other ICU officials. They also promised that Maxaakiimta can keep their weapons and will be made part of a coalition government.
He's a practical man and knows the importance of international politics. Isolation and warrior mentality does not work. Its time to try a new strategy even if it means joining forces and once the Ethiopians are out, then the ICU can re-establish its full authority.
From Jowhar to Beledweyne, Marka to Kismaayo, Diinsoor to Xudur, the Maxaakiim are in control. Al-shabaab even have a few Shari'ah courts in Xamar right under the noses of the Ethiopians. The Americans see this and know their strategies have failed. Like in Afghanistan, they're willing to re-negotitate and make peace with the devil sort of to speak.
