Senior Twisted Logic,
More evidence of the high unemployment and dependence on the Good Hardworking Americans of Maine & folks like us who get up to work and pay taxes to support this voodoo revival:
Bates College releases Somali employment study
Wednesday, January 21, 2009
LEWISTON (AP) - A Bates College study finds that a lack of English language skills is the biggest barrier to employment for many new Somali residents of Lewiston and Auburn.
The report also cites frustration among Somalis that many entry level jobs require certification that the applicant has U.S. high school-level academic skills. Somalis say prior job experience in other states should be accepted as a substitute for the General Educational Development certificate.
The Maine Department of Labor says the 2006 unemployment rate among Somalis in the Twin Cities was 51 percent. The statewide jobless rate among all Mainers at that time was 6.2 percent.
The Bates study was done for the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce and the Maine Career Center in Lewiston.

This guy is unbelievable wallahi.
He is over 35, single, balding, and the biggest geezer in the world. No wonder you have no life.

It is interesting how News Week showcased the entrepreneurial spirit so renowned in Somalis. If you notice they practically comment on the resurgence of economic activity brought on by Somalis opening up new shops and diversifying the economic activity of the area. This is where the new capital in the city is coming from.
Imagine the amount of taxes the new Somali businesses are paying to the local government which is getting the extra money it needs for such thing as welfare.
So in effect, the unemployment level and potential welfare consumption by most likely single-mother Somali households is not, in the long run, having as big a burden as it could in the ideal situation in the city because it is being offset by the level of Somali businesses who are contributing to the local government's treasury.
Those welfare-consuming Somali households will then most likely spend the benefits back into the Somali businesses, which increase their revenues, give them the capacity to expand and impact even more the local economy, and also channel more capital into the local government treasury with increased taxes being paid.
This is one of the positive things about Islam in our community. The strict dietary needs of being a Muslims is really the foundation for our "entrepreneurship" in the West. If Somalis were like Habesha Ethiopians, we would have never been forced to start our own businesses to provide for our dietary needs but because we are Muslim and strict cultural and dietary needs, we have been forced to open up businesses specifically geared towards our communities. This is why we tend to build businesses and engage in such renowned economic activity which comes in handy in situations such as small town Lewiston, Maine.
We resemble the Jews of yesteryears in this respect. Now Jewish people are very much entrenched in the economies of this world.

Re: The Refugees Who Saved Lewiston
If there is one area where Somalis excel, its in business and Somalis in the Diaspora have made great strides in this field. I was reading this one news item that appeared in a Kenyan paper that said some of best Banks in the world have their sole offices in the Somali business district in Nairobi. I also read/heard Somalis paying 35.7% of the taxes in MPLS, I don't know how credible this number is, but it tells much.Voltage wrote:This guy is unbelievable wallahi.

Apparently whatever little assistance local governments give to new Somali immigrants is overcome by the taxes Somalis pay. This is true in places like Minnesota and Ohio.

Re: The Refugees Who Saved Lewiston
Of course the Somali unemployment is high because of the embedded racist propensities of some of the local businesses. It's very hard for a Somali business to get a job there and that's why many Somalis have resorted to starting up their own small businesses.AbdiWahab252 wrote:Senior Twisted Logic,
