Today Maakhir is officially a former state

Post by James Dahl »

I have updated the wiki, after I got confirmation that Maakhir was really and truly dead.
It really died in April 6, 2008, when Jibril dissolved the government and it was never reinstated, but it wasn't official until the Puntland elections and Warsangeli participation, but I suppose I didn't want to offend anyone and left it technically alive until today.

I will be updating the map to reflect this. Dulbahante participation in the Puntland elections will show up on my next map revision as well.

Anyways, my thoughts are with the Warsangeli and their short-lived state. :rose: July 1, 2007 - April 6, 2008

The reality on ground is Sanaag and Western Bari militas=Maakhir (Warsangeli), these groups are independent of PL and not payed by PL.

Maakhir is alive and I'm 100% Jibrils inactive status doesnt mean Maakhir will disappear with him.

Warsangeli of course control what happens in eastern Sanaag, but it looks like Ilkajir is in charge of Beesha Warsangeli and he's pro-unity with Puntland.

Ilka Jir controlling Warsangeli, wallahi you are completly clueless about Warsangeli.

Last I remembered Western Sanaag is the least populated with a few villages in the hands of the Warsangeli majority there.

I know each and every repersentative of Sanaag since every one of them are family members of mine including the general.

The status of Maakhir State as an active admin in the region is questionable since they have received little momentum from ooutsiders but the reception from the Diaspora is more in weight with Maakhir State than PL. The elections involving a Warsangeli won't change the disputed tag that Maakhir State resolved and will continue to exist. Prior to the State being declared no one but the new generation (1960s) ever refered to themselves as Somalis but Maakhiris. The name and the State has more meaning then Puntland and Majarteenia to any Warsangeli.

Nor would the status be any different if a Warsangeli was head of a Isaaq party and was running for a post in there admin, Puntland has no power in Sanaag and Western Bari.

Adde Musa's authoritarian attitude and disdain for local concerns was probably the primary cause. Faroole looks to be a much better leader for a united Puntland.
