What do you think of Bride Market

Post by Minneapolis Mayor »

Each year, at the end of summer, the Ait Ben Haddadou tribes meet at a market near the Imilchil shrine. For three days, they gather in a barren valley 3000 meters high. They come to trade camels, sheep, textiles, and vegetables. There is another purpose for this meeting. Young men come here to meet eligible young women.

Since the secluded villages of the Ait Haddadou have become extended families over time, the market serves as a place for men and women to marry someone outside of their bloodline. But perhaps most significantly, it is a place where Morrocan women have long enjoyed a great deal of freedom in choosing a husband.

The Bride Market of Imilchil is a place where tourists can go to see an isolated culture that has remained relatively unchanged since the 8th century. It has become so popular that even the Moroccan government promotes it as a tourist attraction.

Steffen Pierce is a producer, writer-director, cinematographer and editor whose most recent film, "Marrakech Inshallah," is the second of two films he and his brother, Christian Pierce, have made on location in Morocco. He currently works as the Assistant Curator at the Harvard Film Archive where he manages a growing collection of African cinema.
What do you think of this culture. It sounds ok to me but it is risky though. Meeting a women in the market then Marrying her on the spot? waa waali waxaas

Money talks

about the market, its purpose is for this people to find the right wife, not partner. mida kale what can go wrong, when all the rules are one way, the culture hasnt changed since the 8th century. i dont think this is a place where you find baby mommas, jerry springer types, welfare queens, and single mommas
