What happened there? why did this tuulo become famous. I know it something to do with elections and the number of people registered to vote in that town.

It was one of the elections in the 60's. This town in Shabellada Hoose which had a population of less than 10,000 registered at that time for the elections turned in more votes then all of Waqooyi Galbeed combined.

So Reer Waqooyi started everytime they sensed corruption "waa shaqadii Wanlaweyn oo kale" until Wanlawayn became a name for all former Italian Somaliland iyo dadkeeda.
