Inventor can turn salt water into drinking water
It may not be a miracle but Gerry Vowles says he can turn ocean water into drinking water. And he's hoping to do it here in the Maritimes.
Gerry Vowles has spent nine years developing his machine called a 'wavemill.'
"What we're focusing on is converting ocean water into drinking water," he says.
Vowles's machine is unique because it uses the energy from the ocean's waves. That means no expensive electricity or diesel generators.
He wants to sell the 'wavemill' to countries that have trouble getting fresh water. Vowles thinks there's a huge market for this kind of technology.
"Globally speaking there's a huge shortage of fresh water so the need is there," he says.
He says some American coastal states are also interested.
"One of those units alone would generate water for hundreds of people," he says.
Vowles says he's now negotiating with the three Maritime provinces to find a sight to build a factory.

I've been in contact for the last year and a half with several folks trying to get accessible desalination solution for a few Maakhir towns. My main focus is Hadaaftimo and the cost of several "mobile" units that run off solar energy is a fraction. And could alleviate the shortage especially in remote communities striken hard.
