I like somali poetry...not somali singing....they sing..but no rhtym, no verbato, just doesnt do it for me....the melody takes over most of the time and u barly hear the singer. :P

but you....you SnS are a GREAT singer 8-)

The reality on the ground is the majority of Somalis in the west lives on government handouts and most send some of that handout to relatives back home. Indeed, some have been fortunate enough to make a living on their own and the truth of the matter is, even they are living on the edge. And that was expected since Somalis have been in the west no more then 20 years the most; case in point, whether in Somalia or abroad Somalis are struggling everywhere and among the two the once living in the west fair better whereas those back home are dying for reasons far worse then what SnS prescribes.

One reason for the constant fighting and injustice is Somalia's resources are all controlled by closed communities and barely enough to make those closed communities survive. Due to this an impoverished Somali has no possibility of peacefully advancing his situation in life, and the slightly better off have no reason to help them since most likely their making a living on his expanse. This alone sets the stage for disputes over water, grazing rights, land and dominance over weaker agricultural communities, and the willingness of Somalis to steal from other communities and callously ignore their sufferings. And there is your reason why poverty persists in Somalia to date.

The other reason can be said is corruption; due to the nature of Somali communities, corruption and nepotism is rewarded with backing and support from communities whereas merit-based appointments and advancement opposed. It does not take a mathematical genius to realize that this state of affairs will lead to all honest and unbiased leaders being deposed or pushed aside and corrupt leaders gaining power. Thus, if you wana know why Somalis find themselves in such state, well there is your answer.

And worst of all however is the inability of Somali society today to do what their ancestors learned long ago had to be done, to sit down under the acacia tree and stop the endless cycle of revenge. The craving for revenge, rather than being pushed aside as the evil all-devouring creature that it is, is rather nursed and kept alive, generation after generation, and becomes its own motivation. When Somali leaders today find themselves in a position of power over their old enemies, they simply cannot resist its allure. Despite the fact that they, at long last, have the chance to end the cycle of revenge, they instead engage in the next turn of the cycle with no regrets.

Each of the points raised, taken by themselves, would be enough to keep a civil war going. Unfortunately, Somalia has all.
