Re: Teach me History
somali history is very simple. there was a period of savagery, then darood bin abdirahman came and tamed the beasts and taught them about islam. british and italian came later after. then a descendant of darood bin abdirahman, Mohamed A. Hassan fought an amazing rebellion against them. Somalia gets independence. then a descendant of darood bin abdirahman, Siad Barre, took power and tamed the beasts once again, like his forefathers. A period of savagery followed after the dictatorship. then a descendant of darood bin abdirahman, Abdullahi Yusif, once again tried to tame the beasts like his forefathers, to no avail.

Do not listen to what Somalis here say, read lots of books from lots of different writters (Somalis & non-Somalis), then consult with your mind with what is more accurate and what is the nonesense, my two cents!

Re: Teach me History
A lot of what you will hear anywhere is just myth and folklore. One good recent place to start is Ali Jimaale Ahmed editor, The Invention of Somalia:
http://books.google.com/books?id=XpdAzR ... sw#PPP1,M1
I recommend a soft copy from Amazon.com for about $25. The on-line version is incomplete and hard to read.

You forget an important fact about the somali history.

2 theories as far as I am concerned .
If you think we all descend from monkeys and Lucy is our ancestor ..then we are a very very old people
If not then maybe there'a some truth to what our elders say .
