Are people from Somaliland natural Salafis?

I just realized majority of Somalilanders I know are very Salafi oriented. In fact most of the Somali salafis I have met are "ISQ" clan. What is up with that?

Somaliland and salafis? I don't think so.

90% of somali landers are very liberal with either sufis aviliation or pure culturalists. I have few sheikhs here and there but they are just a tip of the iceburg.

Guys I will say one thing, with the "ISQ" there is no middle guy. From what I have seen they are eithr non-religious or Salafi, so that is where the liberal card came from and from the fact khat was more known there than in the south and still used there more.

But most of the Somali salafis I have known are from Somaliland for some reason.

From my own personal observations yes and it doesn't contradict the fact Al Itihad was started in Burco or some of the top leaders of Al Shabaab are from there,

Voltage, its not about Northerns or southerns, kuligeen we are muslims, regardless, but ur observation is some what kinda true, i myself have noticed this.. i think its the Nomadic life style combined with islam as its roots that has made northerners more extreme about islam.. but dont get it wrong, when i say extreme i dont mean taliban style, i mean dacaad-nimo, if u know what i mean. the kind of islamic movements that started in the north such as the ones you mentioned started purely to rid all somali politics of all these tuugs and warlords. The problem is when these movements moved down south they somehow took a wrong path from thier original path....

Keyse it is really easy dude, if one group controls the south they pretty mouch can control Somalia but if one group controls Puntland, Somaliland,etc they can't really influence the south. But I see you agree, niyo it was a puzzle I was long wondering. Most of the Salafis I have met are ISQ and it is disproportionate to their population in this city.

Interesting point but I'll correct you on one point. Were I'm from its Dhulbhante\Isaaq so it might be a northern thing rather then qabil. For example Las anood might be far more conservative then say Hargiesa, one is Isaaq town the other is not..
