Al-Shabaab Sets up a New Administration for Bay and Bakool Regions

MOGADISHU (HOL) - Al-Shabaab movement has appointed a new administration for Bay and Bakool regions. The two regions in the south west of the country and are among the many regions in the south of Somalia controlled by Al-Shabaab.

At a meeting between senior officers of Al-Shabaab and elders and community leaders of the two regions, the two sides agreed to set up a new administration for the region. Sheik Mahad Omar Abdikarim was chosen to lead the new administration. The former leader Sheik Hasan Mohamed Ali Abuu Ayman transferred responsibilities to the new administration at the ceremony.

The former administrator of the two regions Sheik Hasan Abu Ayman said that the peaceful transfer of power is a testament to the fact that Al-Shabaab leaders are not power hungry and that he has transferred responsibilities to the new administrator Sheik Mahad and that he will work with the new administration.

The new administrator also spoke at the ceremony and said that his administration will make changes to better deliver services to the residents of the two regions and deal with the various challenges people in the regions face. He called on the residents of the two regions to work with his administration.

The former administrator of the two regions has held the position for only five months but has made significant improvements in the security of the city of Baydhabo, the biggest and most important city of the two regions which faced deteriorating security situation before his administration.
