There is a buzz of Oscar nominations for this sensational and controversial new film about stoning to death (lapidation). Reminds me of Passions of the Christ. It is also timely considering events in Iran.

As you can glean from the title it is about stoning of Soraya M. It's not fictional account; it really did happen in Iran back in the 1980s. I haven't seen the film yet and will see it as soon as it hits theaters in my locale. One thing I can say is: about time! It's about time we got movies about the barbaric punishment of stoning adulterers to death. We need to awaken the consciousness of humanity against these barbaric medieval punishments.

Stranded in a remote Iranian village, Sahebjam is approached by Zahra, a woman with a harrowing tale to tell about her niece, Soraya, and the bloody circumstances of her death the day before. Her story exposes the dark power of mob rule, uncivil law, and the lack of rights for women. Her last and only hope for justice lies in the hands of the journalist who must escape with the story—and his life—in order to communicate the violence to the world.
