Shirib, In the post-civil war, isn't it true that you've been advocating for, under federalism, the Maay Curriculum.
The pure Af-Maay is a totally different language than Somali but the one spoken in Baydhabo and Jilib are pretty much diluted or 'Somalicized'.

Re: Ms. Nalia
I don't understand why people call Maay a dialect of Somali. A dialect is something that is mutually intelligible. Maay is not intelligible to a common Somali speaker and also if you look at their alphabet, there are many things that are foreign to common Somali speaker.

Christians trying to attract followers by spreading propaganda in Af-Maay.
Voltage,
Af Maay Maay is just a dialect, Somali speakers can understand it if they lisen very carefully. Ofcourse there are words that a pure Somali speaker would not understand but its just a ''regional slang'' which only people who grew up in those regions would understand.

I am a Somali speaker and probably understand Somali better than you and Af Maay is not intelligible to me. If it is not a separate language, I think it is probably one step away from being one.Somaliweyn wrote:Voltage,

Are you saying my ears are backed up man?
I've heard enough May May to last me a lifetime and I have never understood it.
Standard Somali [som] is difficult or unintelligible to Maay speakers, except when learned through mass communications, urbanization, and internal movement. Different sentence structure and phonology from Somali.
http://www.ethnologue.com/show_country.asp?name=so
Somali-Maay is alternatively listed as a separate language or as a dialect of Somali. In any case it is not mutually intelligible with Somali.
