Qabiil and jacayl-Appears in Somali literature and folktale

Post by Queen_Arawello »

Classic example is the story of Bodheri and Hodan, Layla and Qeys, ( Layla from Galbeed and Qeys from waqooyi), Ali and Awrala ( Ali from Shabeelada Dhexe and Awrala from Mudug) , all Somali versions of Romeo and Juliet

But the most famous of all is Bodheri and Hodan.

Hodan is reported as a young charming and Drop Dead, Gorgeous chic from Buuhoodle, she was from wealthy family of higher social standing within the clan structure while Bodheri was from lower social standing, a baker in Berbera. He knew he had no chance with Hodan due to their relative social standing/

His clan became worried that he was not interested in anyone other than Hodhan. They brought four beautiful young women to him, and they uncovered the top part of their dresses to show him their breasts, then he was asked to choose one amongst the four girls as his bride. He refused.

Later, he became distraught; a "different man" after learning that she was to be married to another man richer than himself and from the same social class as her.

Some say he drank a poison after Hodan's rejection others say he starved him self

He died in 1947; his body is buried in a dusty cemetery in Berbera.. Bodheri died of a broken heart, childless and still in his youth. Bodheri's poems were inspired by a tragic and true tale of "forbidden love.

words of sicid85 who knows the descends personally

That muse Arre chick cilmi boondheri fell in love with. Today, my aunt who is eidagalle said that she was told how the story went by sister of hoodan walanwal(who btw was sister of col. xasan kayd). She said, hoodan herself ended up loving cilmi boondheri after giving birth to her first two babies to the other man. She never knew that cilmi died as a result of her love and later when the news was broken to her, she was shocked and started to have thoughts and feelings for boondheri. From that point on she grieved til she died. Many of us thought, cilmi boondheri was the only one in love, but it turns out the hole in the story is that love came later to hoodan when she was a wife She wept for years and finally died on 1969 of disheartining which can be traced to the stress inflicted by by the love she had later carried for cilmi boondheri, even after his death. The same love that took boondheri's life, also infiltrated hoodan. subxanallah.

People can be from a town in which their clan is not the majority..for so many reasons. Mother can be from that town, grandmom can be from that town, there can be in-laws etc etc... A good example is . Ismaciil Ducaale Carbuun was elected in Buhoodle even though he was Habarjeclo...Simply because his wife was from Buhuudle.. So it happens people to live in a town which is not claimed by his/her clan..

But..Hodan aun has never lived in Buhoodle, so I don't know who wrote that nonsense

I saw her daughter once..
