Are Obligated to Send Money

this is a really touchy question!! because i am not sure whethere there is an "obligation" per say, but there cetainly exists a sort of 'responsibility'. I mean although we can all argue and say that there are so many ways for them to make ends meet, but in reality all the ways that we can suggest are not really affective for someone in Somalia.

but i get so frustrated when my dad sends his relatives huge sumbs of cash so they can start a business or something, because they had a so-called plan and were gonna abide by it, and then we end up finding out that they actually have like 2 to 3 wives and like 15 children, and that they never had a business plane, and used it all for the wedding or some shit like that!!

Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime is a Chinese proverb that should really apply to all of us Somali's that live in the west and send money back. Instead of constantly sending money back to relatives in Somalia we should encourage business ventures by actually taking that money and investing it ourselves. I've realized most of what everybody here is saying is true we have to many ungrateful relatives who consider the money you send to them a monthly salary which their entitled to earn. Whats even worse is that they all assume your a millionaire who earns tons of money....thankfully nobody knows me yet so people stick to calling my father.

Why are we obligated? We are not their parents. Plus it Makes them Lazy and not wanting to do anything. I think they should look for a way to earn a living. You can't feed someone for 10yrs. that is not right.

so true walee. we are to blame, why because instead of teaching these ungrateful relatives how to work hard, we send them monthly salary. now, for people like grandparents we should definetly send money to them without a doubt, they cant work, they old, and lived in very hard life. so i understand where they coming from but what i dont understand is when we send money single, healthy young adults back home. who just eat sleep&play! walahi is not fair. i get so mad when they hassle my momma!

im like u though nobdy knows me yet. if my mom is sending money and i have money i give it to her to send it to them, but they dont know the money actually came from me as is my mom's name baa lagu diray.
