Witness appeal after racist attack

COPS are hunting a gang of Asian youths who meted out a savage beating on four black men in a racist attack in Whitechapel.

The attack started in Fieldgate Street at the back of the East London Mosque around 11pm last Tuesday when the four victims returned to their car to find that it had been broken into.

On seeing another car being broken into further down the street, the men challenged a group of young Asian men who shouted racial abuse at them before chasing them and beating them.

The men were set upon by a large group of youths aged around 18 who chased them from Fieldgate Street, into Whitechapel Road and Greatorex Street and punched and kicked them before stamping on their heads and faces.

All four men needed hospital treatment but are now recovering at home.

Det Sgt Craig Robinson said: "Prayers at the mosque had just finished when the attack happened and Whitechapel Road is a very busy thoroughfare so someone must have seen something."

He said staff at the mosque had been very helpful and that there was no indication that the youths were connected with the mosque.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack to contact Det Sgt Garfield Phillpotts in the violent crime unit on 020 7275 4656 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Walle I remember in my youth when I use to visit my brother in that area, the Bangalis use to beef with the Somalis everyday. But those Somalis were tough straight from Burco and the war between them lasted for so long, in the end the Somali numbers increased to the extent the Bangalis called a truce. Ever since its been like that, you have a few isolated incidents but on the whole they dont trouble the somalis. On the other hand its not a black area like Hackney so the Bangalis will abuse the Biddas.

Tower hamlet is OK, but I'm not in favour with the so called mayor - I think he should be sucked and perhabs replaced with a Bangoli "the predominate minority in east london".


Tower Hamlet would be a better place with out this Somali mayor!
