A few American right-wing commentators have suggested that the U.S should recognize Somaliland so that Somaliland combats the pirates in gratitude.

Quite frankly I don't think Somalia should remain one country. It should be broken up into many countries. It's absurd to think that a land that is primarily composed of one ethnicity should be one country when that ethnicity's cultural dynamics render impossible any form of reliable self-governance. The chaos that is the current Somalia is our natural state, carried over from when we were mostly pastoralists.
