Millionaire is an understatement. Dahabshiil is the richest Somali money transfer and the company makes a total profit of just a little above 1 mil..forget about the net.
Also, infrastructural services like clean streets are the responsibility of government.

Xawalads margins are very low, their UK division is operating at a loss.

Re: Eastleigh
Voltage: are you saying most Somali businesses make less than a million dollar? i dont get it.
Demure: Eastleigh was a pleasant, nice and orderly place when I went for the first team in 1984, the area was still populated by Somalis but it was a good area, not this vast, piece of sh*t it is now. If I visit Nairobi these days, I avoid that area and head home instead. Looks like Hiroshima of 1945 to me.

Re: Eastleigh
Voltage,
That's not what I'm hearing here. I'm led to believe there are quite a few of them. Some of these ppl are paying 50k-60k for a little store smaller than my walk-in closet. Imagine the bigger stores/hotels littered all over Eastleigh.
True the government is responsible but the Somalis are the ones who own businesses there, is it too difficult to form some sort of a committe that represents all of them and get the necessary permit to built streets and a good drainage system? I mean it will benefit them ultimately, they would attrack more customers.
Lord,
Eastleigh is a huge disappointment and I can't imagine it having better times.

Re: Eastleigh
Demure, How are you doing walaal ? From sunny southern Cali to kenya's shantytowns...what a trip
I recently watched a documentary about the life of Mohamed Amin, the kenyan journalist. It was said that he was born in Eastleigh and they described the place as a slum in the time that he lived there...I guess that not much has changed since.

I'm doing well, adjusting to life here (or trying to anyway lol).
I'm determined to see a lot of Africa next year. Djbouti is on my list as well, will let you know when I do make it there. Can you believe I have never been there either!

Eastleigh is a foul place. Don't know why you would venture into that filth at all.
