Jigjiga was the first true and oldest somali city meaning a city where the inhabitents were 100% Somalis. It was inhabitd by all somali tribes and no one tribe dominated the city. all other somali cities like Zaila, mogdisho, bula xaar, burco, barbara, taleex etc were either inhebited by one or two clans or were dominated by one or two. some had large non somali communities living in them as equals and at times were ruled by non somalis e.g arabs.

Jigjiga was where most somali sultans and gerads and most influential somalis resided. thus the reason why the british sat up its first headquaters and military base for the horn of africa during the begining of colonisation.

The city lost its influence of somali culture and politics when the british left and was replaced by the habasha occupiers.

Jigjiga was founded by the samaroon clan and became Pan-Somali city. before becoming an occupied city.

currently it is considered to be an absame (abaskull bartire) terratory, as they are they majority inhabitents even though many other clans are also there in considerable numbers, main ones being samaroon, isaaq, sheekhaal, other darood clans include warsangeli marehan and a number of dir clans. Hawiye are there too and are increasng in number in the city.

MESSAGE TO ALL THE DAY DREAMERS

THE FOLLOWING 'FACTS' WILL SHATTER YOUR FALSE FANTASIES AND WISHFUL THINKING

Jigjiga is the primary settlement of the Bartire, Geri Koombe, Abaskuul and Ogaden firstly. Then secondly there is the neighbouring tribes who also live in the city, i.e. the Gadobiirsi, Jaarso(mixture of Oromo and Somalis), and some isaaq.

But to name Jigjiga to any other tribe other then Darood, is like giving away Hargeisa to Gadobiirsi just because they settle there heavily as well,

there you go guys, its that simple

Stop spreading false propaganda, land cannot be moved, and when you go to jigjiga you will notice the Ministers, Premier of the State(waredo) of jigjiga including the city's major are all Absame Darood, with few representation from other somalis who live there as well.

I have been in jigjiga in 2005, the major clans there are, ogaden, bartire, habasguul , garigoombo, etc, but the city is occupied and the most of the business like banks, shops, cafeteria are run by amxaaaro.
, most of the government worker are amhaaro. there is huge number of amxaaro workers there.

i never said harGaysa belonged to Gedo-Biirsi, i said claiming jigjiga belongs to any other clan then Absame Darood or Geri Koombe, will be like claiming harGaysa belongs to Gedobiirsi!

it's a comparison.

Jigjiga is the Capital of the Ogaden Region, and has many other clans living there and doing business there, just like the somalis in hargaysa or muqadishu, but every region is a primary settlement for someone, in the case of jigjiga it's the hometown of the "Geri Koombe, Bartire, Ogaden, Abaskul", etc, etc.. the rest are honoured guests { marti sharef leh }
