The term "moderate Muslim" usually represents those people who compromise their religion unaplogetically and without any remorse whatsoever. The ones who consider themselves "social drinkers" and go to the Mosque for Eid prayer (sometimes). That label is a clever ploy to separate the Ummah into two groups: extremists and "moderate" Muslims.

And who turns away from the religion of Ibrahim (Abraham) (i.e. Islamic Monotheism) except him who befools himself? Truly, We chose him in this world and verily, in the Hereafter he will be among the righteous.
