- An opposition group in the breakaway state of Somaliland said on Sunday it would keep up its campaign to overthrow Mohamed Haji Ebrahim Egal as president of the self- declared republic.

General Jama Mohamed Ghalib, a lieutenant of Somali National Movement (SNM) leader Abdurahman Ahmed Ali Tur, rejected Egal's recent call for a ceasefire.

"Unless Egal steps down, fighting will continue," Ghalib said.

Somaliland broke away from Somalia and declared itself independent in 1991.

Ghalib said the SNM did not support a coming peace conference in Somaliland, adding that Egal controlled only a third of the country's area.

"We control Somaliland's second biggest town, Burao, and most of the outskirts of the capital, Hargeisa."

Ghalib said his group wanted Somaliland to rejoin the rest of Somalia because it had not achieved international recognition as a separate state

The anti-Egal groups seized control of most of Hargeisa last November,
14-15 November
Heavy fighting breaks out in Hargeisa between Somaliland government troops and SNM Force III troops loyal to Egal's predecessor Abdirahman Ahmed Ali "Tour" (see entries for 22 September and 15 October 1994) (Africa Research Bulletin 19 Dec. 1994c, 11661; AFP 17 Nov. 1994). Hundreds of civilians and aid workers flee the capital on foot (Africa Research Bulletin 19 Dec. 1994c, 11661); there are reports of between 30 and 80 deaths, including numerous civilians (AFP 17 Nov. 1994; Voice of the Great Somali People 16 Nov. 1994). By 18 November both sides claim control of Hargeisa. Somali radio reports indicate that the SNM has full control of Hargeisa and that President Egal has been forced to flee the city (Voice of the Great Somali People 16 Nov. 1994; Africa Research Bulletin 19 Dec. 1994c, 11661).
SNM Force III = Ciidagale

[Begin recording] [Egal] Today, [words indistinct] in the middle of the night and went to this road you know, and it is about 0400 in the morning they attacked. I was forced to [words indistinct] that road you know. At 0500 I was woken up and I was told

Egal denied in this recorded telephone interview he had been evicted, the reporter confirms he heard heavy bombings in background, that road was to Gabiley.
President Egal and most of his crew fled Hargeisa same morning, since northeast road to berbera was already locked and in hands of opposition.
Ghalibs militia had surrounded almost all of Hargeisa's outskirts and Sacad Muuse corridor west was only way out of Hargeisa.
it must have been claustrophic experience for Egal.

You can read the whole article in Indian Occean, how the Ciidagale sultan had set up camp in the former governors Morgans compound in Hargeisa, at that time the " presidential palace" of egal.
the legitimacy of the issue of under-representation is difficult to ascertain. Rather belatedly the government increased the number of Garxajis representatives in the administration (as of September 1996 the Garxajis hold nine ministerial posts compared to 7 held by Habar Awal). This concession on its own did not bring about reconciliation and cessation of hostility between the warring parties. Discord within the Isaaq family of clans over the issue of representation is a residual problem inherited from the Isaaq based SNM struggle against Siyaad Barre’s despotic rule.

To maintain solidarity against Siyaad formidable forces, the SNM adopted an egalitarian system that ensured distribution of SNM responsibilities among the numerically varying Isaaq clans. In this levelling scheme most of the major Isaaq clans received equal allocations in the committees that ran the SNM guerrilla movement. To the chagrin of the large Garxajis clan, this levelling system had to some extent been replicated in the distribution of political capital among the different Isaaq clans in the Booraame conference.

Habar Awal never won any battle in Berbera, Dhegoweyne and his ciise muusa militia was evicted by Tuurs Muuse Carre troops that came to assist the lineage Cabdallah Muusa.
He had berbera for like six months, untill Samaroon elders negotiated a neutral contract where no clan had ownership of rights to the port itself.
It was defined as a national property, funny thing is Egal used the same notion and rule to take the airport from a youth renegade militia of Ciidagale later .
He was a clever man, at this time was the first people saw a new militia, the famous maryalool or shredded carped of many colors.
Fully knowing Sacad Muuse was no match for the militarily strong Ciidagale, he needed all the support his HA could rally behind a governmental face.

When it comes to warfare Habar Awal is nowhere near Garhajis, both subclans of Garhajis has a rich history .
Truth to be told if anyone has information on Sacad Muusa conquests of their present land in Gabilay its of interest.
Ciidagale conquests is well known.

I've always known Khalid yare is a shady character a typical jaajuus .
There is no such thing as Somaliland, it died in 1960 1 july.

Today we live in a structure defined to feed one , while two are at stalemate.
you guys know excactly what I mean...
