Obama's Somali Name: Ayatullah (short story)

Post by GacanSareeye »

the night of the election, suufle wanted to the cafe as they did for big occasions. just like they did the insurmountable job of counting Yey's numbers
and naming each and every xildhaan that voted for him with note pads and papers, it was like the NY stock market only there were one 36" plasma hd tv in the
middle of the room, and for some odd reason suufle never figured why people sat on the back end of the tv, where they engineers? and why did they put it in
the middle to begin with. he couldnt find a reason, just like he couldnt for somalis current predicament. but papers were piled up right by the coffee mug, the buskut trey.they did the same thing for sharif but knew the results so not only did few people show up but they switched to espn, it was too depressing and set up that 'vote qasaaray' was used as a symbol of african democracy. as he came and took his usual turn from his single mom mansion or single infested duplex as he called it, he turned on the corner of Caasho Bakery and Ibrahim's Shipping Company to get to his destination. suufle's jaw stretched and his mouth wide opened when he saw himself in the middle of traffic. he saw mini vans, suvs, and somali's national car toyota in line. he couldnt believe it, but all he saw were white, red, orange, and sun logos and with the somali flag weaved into them. he couldnt believe the level of enthusiam and elation that people felt and how they responded. to suufle's mind why would an 'adoon' be celebrated, arent they nothing back home, dont they do all the things we care not to do. he remembered the one midhaan at yey's election night who remarked 'somalis do in america what we are rediculed in somalia'. he hoped all this people with minimal education didnt accidently vote for mcain or that matter other republicans down the ticket (maybe they did with the coleman-franken shenanigans which took 6 months after election to settle). he came to his final cafe when he saw few of the regulars, cali dheere who lost 1 hand and leg in civil war, geele the professor, jaale the newly arrived refugee, and the loudest shabaab supporter, xaafid. no females, except one that got her coffee right before every final vote misteriously. she would always say something that ruins the day like 'well what happened to sandra bullock' to which after a surprise look no one bothered. as they exchanged greetings in a full packed room, almost everyone voted for obama, or claimed so. a bald guy, the remote gy, in the front after the election gave a brief talk, his eyes were swallowen from not only switching through all the channels but looking up every new word in the somali dictionary, in an emotional outburst, one which can only be compared to a first born child for a man that waited it for years, he said 'tonight is a blessing. i am not going to talk about the election. the results. the states. the rules. clintons. or fox news. tonight we witness one of the greatest come in history. this was a kenyan kid. almost like a somali american born. he has a muslim name. he lived in a muslim world. we all know what was in our heart. that he could never win. that the milk of the cow would have to be returned to the nibble it drippled from before he could win. i am with you on that. i even bought the mcain sticker so that we didnt get unwanted attention. that we didnt take what we couldnt give. but its not about what you or i want. there is a great lesson here. greater than anyone of us. this is a testament from allah. to show and lead us. and bring a lesson forth so much eleborated in the quran and hadith. that its ALWAYS what allah wants that works in the end. this election is a manifestion of that end. if you guys told me a black kid with muslim name would be president in the us two years ago how many of you would bet your car on it. your house. or even your spouse. i would" he stopped to thinkand continued 'well maybe not my spouse but everything else. i say lets give this moment a name the same way the Nabi used the last pilgrimage to reach andpreach the last message. lets give this moment the name it deserves. lets commemerate this moment each year. lets remember the day allah's well overruled ourwishes. allah showed his powers in ways we never imagined. i am not asking for posters or mourning for each november, lets recall and remember what happend. so i suggest we call this man and this moment AYATULLAH." Suufle undetered remarked rather calmly and silently 'walle in aan adoon ayaad ugu yeereyn, hadeer baan tii dharka soomalia reerku ugu dhiqi jirtay amaro siin iyo in ey kan qaraabo yihiin'.

Used Notedpad for this :D
