Re: Translation needed!
Nationalism generally involves the identification of an ethnic identity with a state..
It is also used to describe a movement to establish or protect a homeland (usually an autonomous state) for an ethnic group.
It means to belong to something that you protect more than anything else and to seek refuge in bad times. Does that mean tolkaa or qabiilkaa is your nationality? If so, are you nationalist according that context?
What does it mean to you?

‘Nationalism’ is derived from ‘National’ which is derived from ‘Nation’ and that is derived from the French word ‘Nación’ which is derived from Latin.Dhaga Bacayl wrote: I know you can borrow words but that is besides the point. Re: Translation needed!
Since we can find this word in our rich and healthy language, do you think such thing ever exist among Somalis in general? History shows that Somalis were nomads in general and no “country” of their own. Rather regions of grass land occupied by specific tribes where ethnic or tribal war was going almost every day. If you win the fight you stay and if you lose you move on to another location or take over another land occupied by a weaker group. On the other hand, if your kinsman were attacked and killed, you seek revenge which may last decades to settle. According to our way of life the precious position to protect was our cousins not the land. For the same reason, Somali national anthem was bracing the PEOPLE rather than the land or the flag.
Somaliyeey tooso
Toosoo isku teersada ee.
It was calling for us to protect and defend our people rather than the country.
Do you think Somalis are paying a hefty price for a concept that was misrepresented with no fault of their own?
