
Somali National Army Day Commemorated in Puntland.
Puntland Administration commemorated the National Army Day this morning. The national day was marked at the 54th Army Base located in the Administrative capital, Garowe.
H.E Brigadier General Abdisamad Ali , the current vice-president,presided over the ceremony which was attended by Members of the Puntland Cabinet, Security Officers, members of the Puntland Parliament, the media and members of the public.
The event kicked off at 8:00 am with a parade led by the Puntland Army Band playing patriotic melodies, followed by security forces marching gallantly infront the jubilant spectators.
Next, a guard of honour mounted by security forces was inspected by the Vice-president, H.E Abdisamad Ali Shire accompanied by senior authorities from the Puntland Government.
Colonel Deyr, the acting commander of the Puntland Security Forces opened the ceremony with praise for the professional parade skills displayed by the forces. Then he welcomed the guest of honour to the podium.
In his speech,the guest of honour Vice-president Abdisamad Ali Shire explained that the Puntland Security represented the strength of the Somali people.He praised the historic defence that the National Somali Army carried out for the country and lamented their disintegration during the civil war.
The young and hopeful faces of the Puntland security forces glistened in the hot morning sun, as they listened to the speeches attentively.
The new administration has been keen on professionalizing and motivating the security forces. Currently a number of the forces are enrolled in security courses aimed at building their professional capacities. In addition to this, regular and timely payment of salaries has improved the committment and loyalty of the security forces to their noble duty.
