This documentary changed my Mind

Post by paidmonk »

Part 1

Part 2

Its a piracy documentary from Al Jazeera, they made a few, all based around Puntland. I realized just how powerful the state is, the whole documentary paints the picture of a prosperous small country when in reality its different. I'm starting to think that all of the losses during the civil war have been made up since then plus some new gains. Only its scale, ambition, and lack of recognition make it different from pre-war Somalia, I think they're done grieving for Somalia, guul to them. Watch the documentary and you'll see a different image of the state there, a good eye-opener for newbies. I found myself paying more attention to the police and commerce of the region than the pirates.

Yes he is. I thought it was a rumor but he recently launched a major anti-piracy initiative, but not in Garowe or Eyl...but Garacad of all places. :?

But I don't think he wants to offend his clan and lose their support by going after some of their providers and some political contributors, so my view is that he's using pirates to support him but that's their whole relationship, I don't think he makes personal income, he just takes contributions.
