I am currently reading Oprah Winfrey unauthorized bio by Kitty Kelley. In the first chapter Kitty explore the childhood of Oprah. She claims that as a child she did not get adequate attention due to the fact that she was not light skin like her half sister Patricia. Pat was a light skin cutie with a better nose than Oprah. Therefore, she was considered cute and got more attention. Oprah slept in the sofa while Pat slept in the bedroom with her mom Venita. Oprah later as an adult said--- i wanted to get the attention of my sister, when she entered the room, people noticed. The room lit. When i entered with my dark black self-- the room was still dark.


Oprah said--there is a three type of blacks. Gingerbread : Blacks with cocasian features but their skin is black. (which fits somalis i guess), then there is Vanilla blacks---blacks who have cocasian features, and skin like white, and can pass for whites. And there is people like me, Oprah says---Negros. Kitty woman is a tabloid. But one thing I don't understand is how come no one focuses on the insecurity of majority pale whites who tan to get darker? Why do they always focus on the minuscule color difference of blacks. Put it this way, whose discourse are we following by accepting the status quo of color differentiating blacks but ignoring the same problem that exists among whites?

Kitty is tabloid yes, but she checks her facts really good. No one can sue her for writing fiction or slander. And nothing wrong with tabloid slash gossip, hey why else would we read it, huh?


And to answer your question: There is no need to focus on pale whites tanning their bodies. That is not a big deal. Tanning is not the same as "Diana bleaching blacks" (popular by somalis) which is born out of low self esteem and society presure to be lighter. Tanning is a pope culture invention that was created by hollywood or pop culture. You might say a new form of pressure for the whites. Paleness is an extreme side of skin color, just like coal black is an extreme on the other end. In blacks light skin is preferred, and in whites tanning, italian, mediteranian skin is preferred. The tanning of pale skin is not tied into insecurity of race though, its another aesthetic procedure to suit the hollywood perfect demand. Again, Tanning is a pope culture deal, a political correct machine to demonize whites and make white not cool. (or paleness not attractive?) Blacks are cool. White man cant jump. All white people are the same. etc etc etc
