Try to keep a straight face as you read this - or you might regret it later.
The lines formed by laughing quickly become permanently etched on our faces, according to research.
And the drier your skin is, the quicker the wrinkles take hold, with our 20s and 40s being the prime time for developing lines.
Scientists photographed 120 girls and women smiling and with a neutral expression at the start of the study. Eight years later, their photos were taken again.
Creases that only showed up when smiling at the beginning of the study had commonly turned into permanent lines by the end.
And the more lines that appeared when a woman laughed, the more full-time wrinkles she had eight years later, the British Journal of Dermatology reports.
Dry, sun- damaged skin also wrinkled more than twice as quickly as dewy complexions.
Researcher Dr Greg Hillebrand, chief scientist at skincare firm Olay, suggested women could use the results to take preventative measures on areas that might prove problematic.
He said: 'In the clinic or at home, treatments can be targeted not only at the currently visible permanent wrinkles but also at future persistent wrinkles by noting the exact location and severity of a wrinkle pattern during facial expression.'
In other words, a woman should smile before moisturising and put an extra dollop of lotion on areas which crease up.
Dr Hillebrand added that while factors such as smoking and sun exposure had long been known to age the skin, the role of facial expressions had been largely overlooked until now.
