Knots by Nuruddin Farah

Farah asks what happens if a Toronto Somali woman moves to Mogadishu? I swear in the beginning I had no hope for the character of Cambara. I thought she made the worst mistake of her life. It turns out to be the best decision ever. Instead of a horrible anti-Somali novel. It shows that underneath the war and devastation is hope. That even the Somali militia teenager would abandon the militia life in a hearbeat if he had the option of movies, meals, and hanging out because he is still just a teenage boy. That the orphan is not an orphan but just a boy who couldn't find his mother. That yes there are animals in Somalia, but mostly if you just take the time to take a second glance you will see your brother, mother, daughter, grandmother, father....
Nice I am so going to look for some more of Farah's novels.
