Sending Blessings On Our PROPHET MUHAMMAD (SAW)

Post by TheLoFather »

One of the matters which we Muslims overlook or not implement it as much in our lives is to get in the habit of sending blessings on our prophet Muhammad (SallaAllahWasallam). This matter is of so much importance that in Quran Allah declares doing so Himself along with the angels and then instructs the Muslims to do the same.

In Quran, Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Allah sends His Salaah (Graces, Blessings, Mercy) on the Prophet (Muhammad), and also His angels (Angels ask Allah to bless and forgive him). O you who believe! end your Salah on (ask Allaah to bless) him (Muhammad), and greet him with the Islamic way of greeting (salutation, i.e. As?Salaamu ‘Alaykum)” [Quran: al-Ahzaab 33:56]

Sending blessings on the prophet is so vital that in one of the hadeeth, acceptance of our Dua is made dependant on it. According to a hadith by ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:

Dua is suspended between heaven and earth and none of it is taken up until you send blessings upon your Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).” (Classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi).

Another hadith takes this topic further in that it advises believers to include as much blessings on the Prophet (SAW) part of our dua. It was narrated (in part of the hadith) that Ubayy ibn Ka’b said:

I said: O Messenger of Allah, I send blessings upon you a great deal; how much of my prayer (dua) should be for you? He said: “Whatever you wish.”

I said: One quarter? He said: “Whatever you wish, and if you do more it is better for you.”

I said: Half? He said: “Whatever you wish, and if you do more it is better for you.”

I said: Two thirds? He said: “Whatever you wish, and if you do more it is better for you.”

I said: Should I make all my du’aa’ for you? He said: “Then your concerns will be taken care of and your sins will be forgiven.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (2457); classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.

About the above hadith, Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said in Jala’ al-Afhaam (79): Our Shaykh Abu ‘Abbaas (i.e., Ibn Taymiyah) was asked about the meaning of this hadeeth. He said: Ubayy ibn Ka’b had a dua that he used to say for himself, and he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) whether he should make one-quarter of it sending blessings on him, and he said … because whoever sends blessings on the Prophet, Allah will send blessings on him tenfold, and if Allah sends blessings on a person He will take care of his concerns and forgive him his sins.

In another hadith by Al-Tirmidhi (484) narrated from ‘Abd-Allah ibn Mas’ood that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

The closest of people to me on the Day of Resurrection will be those who send the most blessings on me.” [Classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb wa’l-Tarheeb.]

In summary, we should send our salutations to the prophet (SAW) whenever possible or whenever we hear his name mentioned. Let’s remember that Allah Himself does that along with the angels too

Salaamun Alaikum,

what an excelent post and source of confort for us the believers, this should empower us muslims to be more frequent and insistant in our duas to our Rabb Al-A’lameen, especially the most important ingredient of it is to send blessings upon our beloved Prophet (S.A.A.W.S.W.S). I say this are the most beautiful sayings that can soften the believers heart and get it closer to Allah and His Messenger (S.A.A..W.S).
Also is recorded in Sahih Al-Tirmidhi that the Prophet(S.A.A.W.S) said: “The miser is the one in whose presence i am mentioned yet does not pray for Allah’s blessings upon me.” At-Tirmidhi 5/551 and others. See also Al-Albaani, Sahih At-Tirmidhi 3/177 and Sahihul-Jaami, As-Saghir 3/25.
Brothers and sisters, lets never forget that our Prohet is still is the noblest man on the face of this earth, no other is comparable to him, for his is the most perfect of creation and the greatest of examples for all of us so “ya ayyuha ladheena amanu, “Salli Alayhimu Tasleema.”
Another thing there is absolutely no doubt!!! We need to send salaam and Salawaat to the Holy Prophet Mohammed (sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) as Allah (swt) mentioned in the quran and command to do.

“THERE IS NO DOUBT DUAS WON’T BE ACCEPTED IF SOMEONE DELIBERATELY MISSING OUT THE NAME OF PROPHET MOHAMMED (SAW) IN HIS/HER DUAS”.

When sending greetings to Prophet Muhammad,

some say: Peace be upon him (PBUH)
others say: Peace be upon him and his family (PBUH&HF)
some others say are more generous and say: Peace be upon him and his family (Aalihi) and his wives (wa Azwajihi) and all his companions (wa Sahbihi Ajma'een).
Now let us see how the Prophet himself thought us to send blessing for him:

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HF) said, "Do not salute for me in short!" The companions asked, "What is saluting in short?" The Prophet replied, "Saying that Blessing of Allah be upon Muhammad." They asked, "what should we say?" the Prophet (PBUH&HF) answered, "Say: Blessing of Allah be upon Muhammad and his Ahlul-Bayt." In another wordings the Prophet replied: "Say: O Allah bless Muhammad and his household the same way as you blessed Abraham and his household. Verily you are worthy of all praise full of all glory!".

This saying of the Prophet was in connection with the following verse of Quran which was related about the House of Abraham (AS):

They said: "Do you wonder at Allah's decree? The Mercy of Allah and His Blessings be upon you O people of the house! for He is indeed worthy of all praise full of all glory!" (Quran 11:73)
Moreover, Ibn Hajar also mentioned that some commentators of Quran have narrated from Ibn Abbas (RA) that the Quranic verse "Peace be upon the family of Yaaseen (Quran 37:130)" refers to the family of Muhammad. (See al-Sawa'iq al-Muhriqah, by Ibn Hajar, Ch. 11, section 1, p228).

From the tradition given earlier, one can see that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HF) mentioned his name and his Ahlul-Bayt together, and disliked mentioning his name alone. He specifically ordered that his followers SHOULD include his family in all their greetings to the Prophet Muhammad. This because ONLY those individuals whom Quran testifies to their perfect purity (the last sentence of Verse 33:33) are worthy of being saluted.

From Sahih al-Bukhari:

Sahih al-Bukhari Hadith: 6.320
Narrated Ka'b bin Ujra:
It was said, "O Allah's Apostle! We know how to greet you, but how to invoke Allah for you?" The Prophet said, "Say: O Allah! Send your blessings/greetings (Salawat) on Muhammad and his family, the same way as You sent Your blessings/greetings on Abraham's family. You are indeed worthy of all praise, full of glory.'"
