The Warsangeli regions that are bases for Al-Shabaab types are in Sanaag and British Somaliland; this extremism is an Isaaq problem.

Puntland is only dealing with a few elements located in Galgala, Bari, nothing more. The majority is a localized Warsangeli problem based in Sanaag and with consequences for Somaliland and Isaaq, not Puntland or Majerteen.

Whenever Al Shabaab wants to start out somewhere they first use the disenfranchised groups. They did it with Murusade iyo kuwa kale in Xamar, with minorities and Raxanweyn in the southern parts, with Duduble in Galgaduud, and now Warsangeli in Puntland. When they make a base then they get supporters from the more powerful groups and they become a force. Their daring skirmishes in Puntland show they consider themselves powerful there now. I see Habar Yonis as the trojan horse in Somaliland. It is only a matter of time once they chase Faroole from Garowe and Boosaaso.

somaliland needs a viable millitary threat puntland never was and always pussies out of a fight..
alshabaab unfortunatley is not threatening enough..

if they had enough local support then maybe, we would pay more attention....

a few fringe elements here, will be dealt with by the police and intelligence forces..


puntland is weak and fractured but i do not believe they will collapse due to alshabaab...
