Raage Ugaas was perhaps the greatest poet in Somali literature; in my view bigger than the Sayid in terms of the depth of his art. Life teaches you lessons and Raage, in my view, has seen it all at a young age and I think that greatly helped him mature in literature and life in general. He lost his lovely wife to a killer lion, his fiancee was given to another man, he lost his dad, he lost brothers, some immature poets challenged his poems. His trials and tribulations in life were countless and he always came on top by creating some of the most amazing pieces of poems. The other amazing thing about him was that he spoke about things that, at that period, man wasn't supposed to be talking about like crying, doing nothing when his fiancee was taken and so on.....He was a legend and in my humble view was way ahead of the Somalis at that time....
In rhyming about when his first wife was killed by a lion, Raage said:
Sida koorta Yucub oo la sudhay, korommo buubaal ah
Ama geel ka reeb ah oo nirgaha, laga ka xaynaayo
Ama beelo keynaan ah, oo kor u hayaamaaya
Ama ceel karkaarrada jebshiyo, webi karaar dhaafay
Ama habar kurkii iyo wadnaha, lagaga kaw siiyay
Ama kaal danley qaybsatiyo, kur iyo dhal yaabis
Shinni kaaluf galay ama siddii, koronkoroo oomi
Xalay kololo’aygii ma ladin, kaamil reeruhuye
Kunbulkiyo ardaagii miyaa, laygu kaliyeeyay?
Wixii laygu kuunyeeyay miyaa, igu karaamoobay?
Kunbiskii miyaa layga qubay, kolayo ii buuxay?
Maantana kataantii miyaa, layga kala qaaday?
Kob abaar ah oo dhexe miyaa, koore ila meeray?
Kub miyaan ka jabay biixiyaan, kabayo loo haynin?
In that juncture of Somali history, men weren't even supposed to display affection for women especially after she becomes wife. But Raage was Raage and in this piece he is literally crying for his wife. What a legend, poet, warrior, artist and family man!!!!! God bless his soul!!! It is one of my goals in life to make a movie about this incredible man!!!

Raage Ugaas is Reer Cabdulle
Garaad Wiil Waal Jidwaaq ( Absame royal family
The first video is just about competition btwn Raage Ugaas and Wiil Waal over a chic whereby Wiil Waal, the King was killed.
2nd video talks about Raage Ugaas's response to HY poet in Yemen that dissed him infront of fellow fellow darood/harti men that were present..so he was kinda pissed at the cowardance displayed by these men that said nothing when the HY poet dissed Raage Ugaas.
Last video his dissing Garxajis (H.Y)
PS: My sub clan are the ones that karbashed both Garxajis n Habar Awal

Good analysis man.I agree with you on this for the most part, Raage was an incredible character. You cant find equals to the legendary poets these days, Dhodaan comes to my mind hes probably the best now.guhad122 wrote:Raage Ugaas was perhaps the greatest poet in Somali literature; in my view bigger than the Sayid in terms of the depth of his art.
