A Somali-Italian Militant against Fascism

Post by Twisted_Logic »

"I feel the nation as a culture and a feeling of freedom, not as a color anywhere on the map ... The homeland is not identifiable with fascist dictatorships like that. Country means freedom and justice for peoples of the world. For this fight the oppressors "

Giorgio Marincola Radio Hut, January 1945

Half-Italian and Half-Somali campaigner against the Fascist rule of Italy. He was one of the leader of the underground resistance movement against Mussolini. When he was captured by the SS of Germany and brought on national radio to condemn his group and comrades, he refused and a huge blow against his head was heard on the radio. When his detention camp was finally liberated by the allies, he refused to go to Switzerland as a refugee and instead went to Italy where he rallied and staged campaigns against the retreating fascists. When he was finally murdered, he became the very last Italian to die at the hands of the Germans/Fascists.

As a result of his services, he won Italy's highest Military Award The Gold Medal Of Military Valor. A district in Rome was recently named in his honor and a club house was also named after him.

Transcript from his Gold Medal in Military Valor award:

"Young college student, shortly after the armistice took part in the liberation struggle, very distinguished in the Roman underground formations, and capacity for decision. Eager to continue the fight was part of a military mission in August 1944 and was parachuted in Biella. Rendered valuable services in organizing and in that information, and in numerous firefights demonstrated firm resolve and legendary courage injuries. Fallen into enemy hands and forced to speak for propaganda on the radio, what should expect reprisals extreme, with a firm heart brings opportunities to enhance loyalty to the legitimate government. After harsh confinement, released by Allied mission, refused to save themselves through Switzerland and preferred to take up arms with the partisans of Trentino. Fell from a valiant battle with the SS in Germany when the struggle for freedom was now successfully completed. "
