Civil war in Garissa

Post by Lord Diplock »

Between Abdalla and Abudwaak over land

4 are killed (3-1) and scores injured, many properties have been torched and destroyed.
Politicians are behind this senseless killings among brotherly people.

LordDiplock,
That is very sad indeed. Ogaadeen weligii ma ilbaxo marka Soomaalida kale yiraahdaan waxbaa kajira. Why two clans would fight in a city growing so fast that soon it would become the biggest East African Somali populated city. Why?
Every single OG anywhere in the world has some business interest in Garisa these days. Why do they want to waste that opportunity? What is the relatioship between Cabdalle and Caabudwaaq? Are they both linked by Tolomoge?
A brother of mine was telling me that the Caabudwaaqs and the Cabdalle are centered in the central of the city and don't mingle with other OGS. He told me that all the other Ogaadeens:Cawylyahan, MSubbeer, Maqaabuul and so on live in peace with each other in other areas of the city.

I hope this cools down as soon as possible.

Of couse Cabdalle and Caabudwaaqs are Tolomoge, they are cousins but historical rivalries. By the way am half and half.
Your brother is not telling the truth, these 2 sub-clans dominate Garissa, they live on both sides of the town. Cowlyahans have a big presence though. Maxamed Subeers, Bah Geri and Maqaabuuls live everywhere, they rent houses from anyone.

the fighting is over land, this area belonged to my reer abti (Abudwaak, Reer Guleed) but they are losing it to Cabdalle and they are not happy about it.
but politicians are behind this.

This is bad for Garissa as a city, It was named one of the safest cities in North-Easternn Africa by Interpol just recently.Garissa is growing very fast and the population is becoming more and more diverse you cannot bring the Geeljire mentality to a city where there is peace and stable governance.Inshallah this is just a small bump and nothing major.

Inadaan, Abdalles in Kenya are very peaceful people, we have never started any conflict in our history and we only defend ourselves. We have always lived in that area of Garissa but our Abudwaaks cousins believe they can take our properties and kick us out of Garissa and we have had enough of this. We are on the defence bro.

Eega: Well said bro

Half_ I will inshallah.

Latest news from Garissa regarding the conflict between Abdalle and Abudwaak is this:

The government has deployed security personal to keep the peace and the city is under curfew.
Their uneasy peace between the two clans, but there is foreboding fear and many Abdalles have fled their homes (in Abudwaak dominated neighbourhood like Bula Iftin).
Abdalle have accept terms of a peaceful reconciliation process but they (abudwaaks) are not interested yet, according to my source: they want us to move out of GSA. The answer to that is, not a bloody chance.
20 Abdalle homes have been torched.
Majority of the injuries and deaths occurred on their sides, Abdalles were already prepared when they were attacked, they heard rumour about impending attack.
Lets hope all will end in peace and harmony.

This sounds like a nightmare. If Abdallah and Abudwak are fighting each other, who is next? this should be sorted for once and all, we need to sit down and talk.

I am sure politicians are behind it bro. I don't think the Kikuyus or the Kenya gov't cares about different Somali clans, they are all the same to them.
This conflict is about land (to some extent) and politics mainly, in my opinion, the Abudwaaks are worried about the coming Garissa County Assembly election (around 2012), many Abdalles will be elected from Garissa city and thus reduce their own numbers. They believe rightly the areas around Garissa belongs to them, but Garissa city is a diverse place these days and Abdalles have been there since day one.

I just want to see peace prevails.
