The town of Galkayo in northern Somalia has become a haven of peace for thousands of people fleeing the fighting in Mogadishu. The people at the camps say that they faced a lot of difficulties before they fled from the war zone and felt their lives were often in danger.
They said they would normally lock up their children in their huts when they went to wash their clothes or to work.
In Mogadishu, you can easily be hit by a bomb, Reuters quoted an internally displaced person as saying.
Galkayo, on the border of war-torn southern Somalia and the relatively more peaceful northern region of Puntland, is receiving thousands of desperate people each week, fleeing the fighting in the capital Mogadishu.
The 21 camps in and around the town house over 60,000 displaced people. Most of them work hard to collect enough money to migrate to Yemen or Saudi Arabia or even Europe for a better life.
Somalia has not had a functioning government since 1991, when warlords overthrew former dictator Mohamed Siad Barre.
Over the past two decades, up to one million people have lost their lives in fighting between rival factions and due to famine and disease.
There are more than 1.4 million internally displaced people (IDPs) in Somalia. Over 300,000 of the IDPs are sheltered in Mogadishu.
