If the barren land of NFD is able to produce food and grow it, most regions in Somalia and the Ogaden should be able to do it. Especially this should happen in the Southern Somalia where there is plenty of fertile land.
We need to catch up to world development and end his Nomadic ways and become a farming based people, it's the only way we are going to survive and grow

Re: Time to end nomadic pastoralism in the Somali people
I don't think nomadic pastoralism itself is a negative lifestyle. It has its share of many positives. It's a productive lifestyle that involves raising livestock, time-tested skills that help nomads survive, positive nomadic morals/values, etc. Somalia was once the one top African country in terms of the number of its livestock resources. Sudan and other countries have overtaken Somalia, because a large number or Somalis have transitioned to urban lifestyle over the past few/several decades. I think it started when the kacaan airlifted hundreds thousands of nomads from their drought-stricken habitats to to urban dwellings. Many of those nomads haven't transitioned properly to urban lifestyle. Transitioning from one lifestyle to another takes generations, requires social/psychological help, patience, adaptation, etc. Both pastoralism and farming can be combined, thus leading to productivity, less violence, peace among the various people, etc.

This is the 21st century, nomadic pastoralism was outdated even in the middle ages.

You need to keep a balance. Livestock will always be a great source of income and wealth. However, we should modernize and domesticate Somali nomads into livestock grids; permanent places they can settle where their animals can enjoy continually irrigated pastures. In a few weeks I'll start working on a farming grid for parts of Somalia, if possible I'd try to create a system to organize pastoralists.
