In another topic (posted months, few years ago), I presented a White House publication about the xaflad made for the late prime minister. In that xaflad, khamri was served, and there's the possibility that the late prime minister drank or sipped it. That was when Kennedy lifted the khamri toast to wish well the prime minister, Somalia or better relationship between the 2 countries.

Arabman,
Why would you care to point that out? Isnt your government's objective to destroy the Islamic religion and its characteristics?

Ismahan, I'm pointing out this 'cause some people are proud about this visit, particularly when it involves the late Kennedy. You're mistaken; Islam cannot be destroyed. The best that can be tried is to distance Muslims from Islam.

Well I think all this thread is touching on is the respect Somalia had within the International community and without getting into too much personal details about the politicians. But I do agree,Islam can never be destroyed.

Ismahan, every other country that at that era had some nominal relationship with the US would have had their leader welcomed in the same manner. This wasn't a special treatment or respect for Somalia, its prime minister or government. It was the sort of protocol to welcome such a leader. Kennedy might have welcomed leaders who weren't respected or on a friendly terms with the US. The protocol demanded that the welcoming go ahead. So, this doesn't mean Somalia was respected. You respect someone with whom you had positive dealings. Somalia had, at that time, better dealings with Russia.

Two parties are tangoing, not one. The Khamri would have been for the American side. In the last state dinner in the US, between Obama and Indian prime minister, toasts were made with one party drinking wine and other water.

Starting 04:24 the late president actually pays a visit to a famous Washington landmark, the Islamic Center and Mosque. So if your going to make this sort of a allegations about this well known religious man kindly put the "possibility" bull aside and present us an actual evidence.

As for Kennedy, his upbringing was the least of Mr. Abdirashid concerns; he was there to build ties with the Kenney's admin. and not to make demands.

He was actually quite religious according to people. I doubt he drank. I read a book by a Somali prostitute who hated him because he put her out of business in Mogadishu when he chased away all her clients by passing laws that prohibited and alcohol and prostitution in the city.

If he was really religious, it baffles me why he was totally cleanshaven. He could at least have grown a goatee. Or, he could have followed the example of Iran's previous president, Mohammad Khatami, who refused to take part in a Western xaflad where khamri was served.

I'm trying to find that White House publication, or the topic where I posted the link.
