Iran offers agricultural Cooperation With Somalia

Iran is ready to restore Somalia's agriculture and revive its exports, Agricultural Jihad Minister Sadeq Khalilian said.

The minister made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Somali Parliament Speaker Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adan in Tehran on Monday saying that security in Somalia will promote its cooperation with other countries which in turn will lead to economic growth, IRNA reported.

Khalilian noted that Iran's agricultural industry has accomplished high improvements and informed the Somali official of Iran's readiness to help and support Somalia in restoring its agriculture saying "Iran supports stability and security in Somali and would like to see the country's economic advance in all fields."

The Somali parliament speaker, for his part, expressed his appreciation over the opportunity provided by Iran for his visit and said "We are keen to expand our cooperation with Iran to overcome our economic problems."

Somalia has very fertile lands but due to the lack of agricultural knowledge and inadequate investment, they're left useless, he added.

"We would like to invite Iran to invest in our agricultural sector", he concluded.

Good stuff...vital industry to the succes..of Somalia....I wonder what happened to Lavole university...use to be a power house for agricultural developement and research...
