Well the 'sudden' change of heart, as you describe it, came because of the 'sudden' bombing of all major cities that resulted in the 'sudden' death of 10's of thousands of people. So I can see why people would be pissed off and it lead to the 'sudden' change of heart.

We want to determine our own future we joined a country and did not we did not benefit from the union the only reason we joined xammar was to have a greater somalia there is no reason for us to be part of Somalia hada la wayey Somaliweyn, second the majority of the tribal society who live in Somaliland have no tribal connection with Somalia tribal wise. 3th Somaliland is our identitiy we lost our identity when we joined the koonfurians and now we have it back since two decades.
